"America was built on two monumental crimes: the genocide of the Native American and the enslavement of the African American. The tendency of official America is to memorialize other peoples’ crimes and to forget its own - to seek a high moral ground as a pretext to ignore real issues."
This is probably going to make a lot of people mad
Please read this all the way through! I dont think I’m being unfair with this, and I’d like to hear any criticisms you have.
If I’m going to be 100% honest here, I dislike a lot of mainstream feminism because it completely disregards racism. It lumps me into a group with white men and says ” Look at all the privilege you have, you’re so lucky!” While I’m not on this to win the oppression Olympics, or anything remotely close to that, I think it’s stupid to say that I shouldn’t have a say in a conversation because I have a penis and I couldn’t really understand what oppression is like. Like racism doesn’t exist. Before you say “Not all Feminists…” isn’t that exactly what happened with “Not all men…”? I’m just trying to say as a black man, it is not like I don’t know what it is like to experience oppression.
Total disclaimer: I believe strongly in women’s rights, and I want the world to be the best place for my sister to live in, and for my possible future daughters to never be called ” bossy” or cat called, or told that they shouldn’t go into science and technology, or sexually abused. I never want anyone to deal with oppression; I’ve been there, done that. I know some of what it is like from watching my sister grow up in the same house hold. What I am talking about is the tone some feminists have taken with some men in online discussions. I’m sure this won’t go over well with everyone. At the end of the day, I’m a huge supporter of women’s rights and DO believe there is a ton we can do to make the world better for women.
If impulsive admissions and bad puns are your thing, hmu bruh :D
This huge language barrier exists between my grandma and me because my Amharic is lacking and she doesn’t speak english. I’m sure she hates that, but no matter how hard I try, my Amharic comes out in pieces.
